09 April 21 - Small Business Feature Friday
We’re continuing our support for
#AutismAcceptanceMonth
by featuring businesses for SBFF that embrace, support, benefit, help and accept autistic individuals! Today we are featuring
TOP Rehab
Services, Inc. TOP is an independently owned outpatient therapy company, committed to providing the highest quality Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy for over 28 years! They have two clinics located in Tullahoma and Manchester. They provide a full range of services for both pediatrics and adults. This is one of the many unique ways TOP Rehab serves our communities!
While TOP’s services include a wide range of therapies and specialties for people of all ages, I especially love that they have a sensory gym! Sensory gyms are fun for all kids, but they're especially valuable for children with special needs because they provide a wonderful opportunity for them to learn to process information in a fun, non-threatening way. Not only will a sensory gym help improve balance and body awareness, but it will also improve fine motor skills, coordination, cause-and-effect reasoning and cognitive-behavioral social skills in a safe environment.
Sensory gyms are especially useful because they integrate a child's sensory input, which is something children with special needs often have difficulty processing. They're either over-sensitive (i.e., they become overwhelmed with too much information) or under-sensitive (i.e., sensory information isn't properly registered). In contrast to a traditional learning environment, sensory gyms are fun, stress-free areas where children with special needs can process sensory information. Sensory difficulties are common amongst autistic people and occupational therapy can help them learn coping strategies to help process sensory “overloads”.
If you or a loved one is in need of Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy, TOP Rehab’s staff is there to listen and work with you as a team to help you or your loved one reach their full potential and specific treatment goals. If you have any questions about TOP or their services, visit their website
